Adventures in Africa... Trying to fix the Engine & Raising the Mainsail
We arrived on Saturday night, so Sunday we just did small boat projects, and I found there was a Nanni Dealer not 200 yards from the marina. There are only 2 nanni dealers in all of Morocco and we happen to land right close to one. First thing Monday morning we walk over to the next port over to speak with the Nanni dealer. Unfortunately the Nanni shop is in a large marina, and they won't let us in without giving our passports over to the guards. Then they won't let me go with Blair. Blair wonders around for a good half hour trying to find the dealer since he's mapping service won't work. Finally he finds the nanni dealer who agrees to come look at the engine that morning.
He's guys come to the boat and push the starter and naturally the engine starts right away! Blair spends the next week trying to isolate the problem and is finally able to duplicate the issue by over heating the engine.
They never were able to able to figure out the problem, but we had a spare starter so they put that in, hoping that would fix the problem.
Blair had also noticed that the mainsail was extremly difficult to raise. So we raised the main while in the Marina to see if we could see what the problem was. After Blair raised the main several times and I took video and photos, I noticed that the cars we dragging and not going up the main smoothly.
In this photo you can see the main is luff is strapped.
We finally met some other cruisers. South Wing a boat from Australia, so we went out to dinner at a funky moroccan resturant. Cheap little place but set in an increable building.
We spend a week in Agadir doing boat projects and preparing for our crossing to Las Palmas in the Canary islands.
