The Saints of Guadaloupe

We arrived in Pain de Sucre ( Sugar Loaf) is one of the most beautiful coves we've enjoyed in the Caribbean. Luckily Ken & Cheryl Hilk of Lover of the Light had saved us a mooring ball.  This is a very popular anchorage, and there are only 10 mooring balls. Ken had reached out to me via Facebook when we were in Martinique as he had seen me posting on the Martinique Cruisers FB forum. Ken is a good friend from Hobie Racing, and it was lovely to reconnect with him and his wife while we were both living on on cruising boats. He and Cheryl had recently finished their circumnavigation with the World ARC and were a wonderful resource. What a fantastic coincidence.

We spend a wonderful week. Snorkling the cove, hiking  and exploring the islands and enjoying a few meals with Ken & Cheryl.

We hiked up to the Fort Napoleon, but unfortunately I slipped while walking around the outside and this reinjured my left knee that was still healing from the surgery last May. I was able to walk back, but decided to wear a knee brace while doing anything active for the next few weeks.

Our last night on the island we went into the village to watch the parade. Naturally it didn't start at the appointed time of 6:30 . After about an hour of waiting by the church steps we decided to have dinner . On the way to dinner we finally saw the Carnival Parade that this village puts on. It was fun to see all 50 people in the parade. The town and the parade are both so small that the parade went around and around the village for a few hours so we were able to watch the parade several times.

It was fun to see how these different islands celebrate Carnival in their own unique way.  After a wonderful week, it was finally time to move on.
