Dominica Dolphin, River Tour & Rainbows
We arrived in Dominica on Friday to spend the weekend on the northside of Dominica. We were met by the local "boat boy" to help us grab a moorning ball, and sign us up for a River Tour. The big draw to the "Indial River" is that it's a beautiful tourquoise color, but Dominica has had an usually rainy winter. (We had experienced this when we were here in December with the flooding). The river was murky, but it was actually quite informative as he told us about all the local plants they use for medicinal purposes.
When the tour guide was bringing us back to our boat, we saw people playing with a dolphin in the water. Yes this was a wild dolphin, so I quickly go my snorkle gear on, and went over to see the dolphin. She came right up to me, and allowed me to pet her, she circle back to me, from the group, which was one of the highlights of my marine experiences in the Caribbean.
Sadly, the other people that she was playing with started to "tease" her and touch her fin and nose when her head was turned away. She made biting snaps with her mouth, and then finally got fed up with them, and left. We waited around a couple of more days hoping that she would come back to the anchorage, but she never did. I do treasure the few moments, she choose to spend with me.
We went to the cruisers BBQ, and it was fun to meet other cruisers and here about the different places they have been and are planning to go. After a rainy weekend we left for The Saints of Guadaloupe.
