Antigua Old Memories
From the BVI's & Ile Fourchue it was upwind all the way, so we basically motored for 2 days. We arrived at Jolly Harbor to check in and recooperate from the passages from the BVI's. We met our friends on Tally Ho whom we hadn't seen in months. It was great to go for a hike and catch up with them.
While getting gas in Jolly Harbor we saw Leslie from Orna. He told us that after they left us, they had gone to Spanish Wells to check out with their boat, and went into the shallows that we had seen the day we left The Baths. We had decided it was too scary for us. At anyrate... Orna had been to Spanish Wells before and said they knew how to get into the protected shallow cove. They even offered to take me to Spanish Wells so I could check us out, and not have to take a taxi. They had been into this shallow area before, but this time they hit bottom and broke the bottom off their rudder, so they were hauled out at Jolly Harbor to check the boat and make repairs. It was sad to hear this happened to them, but it confirmed in our minds that we had made the right decision to not go into Spanish Wells to anchor at dusk.
We then went down to Falmouth Harbor to meet up with our friends on Lover of the Light. Ken is a friend from Hobie Racing and he and Cheryl were here to race with friends at the Oyster Regatta. I hadn't been to Falmouth Harbor since I was in my 20's and working on Super Yachts. We met them at the Yacht Club which hadn't change a bit, so I order a Mount Gay (Rum) and Ting ( Grapefruit Soda Pop) for old times sake.
I have many fond memories of my time in Antigua. I had met 2 other young women both named Anna. We quickly became friends as all 3 of us were looking for jobs on Yachts. I remained in touch with my Anna from Australia. It was fun to see all the old places we had hung out while there . We hadn't spoken in years, so I sent her photos of all the places we had hung out. She was thrilled to hear from me, and see all the photos of the places we had hung out with other yachties. She's currently traveling in New Zealand with her husband, and they keep thier boat in Fiji. It's funny how we met 35 years ago, and yet are lives have gone on similar paths.
Here is Jackee's Kwik Stop... You can get Roti's here, and I renamed it The Slow and Go, as it ususally took about 45 minutes just to get a Roti. (Basically a curry dish inside a burrito).
Tally Ho met us the following day, and we spend a day hiking over to Nelson's Dockyard. The hike was lovely, plus we could go in the "back way" into the national park and not get charge $15 per person for the privilege of just walking around this historical boat yard.
It was time to move on and visit other parts of Antigua and make new memories.
