Antigua New Memories

We decided to Buddy Boat for a week with Tally Ho, and started at Green Island to Snorkel. It was good snorkeling, but we wanted to go to RayCity to swim with Rays. It was a good plan, as the anchorage is a very big bay, however it was quite shallow, and the winds were above 25 knots. Both crews decided it was too dicey and none of us felt comforable with the anchorage, so I had already planned a bail out plan to Bird Island.

It was just around the corner, so we headed there. Silver Moon has a very shallow draft when we raise our keel, plus we are an aluminum boat. Tally Ho is a fiberglass boat and has a deeper keel. They didn't feel comfortable going through the narrow cut just around the corner, so they went further north, and then took another route into Bird Island.

Our experience told us that each Skipper & Crew need to make the decisions for their boats that they feel comfortable with. We also took it very slow going through the cut. Blair followed the navionics track very carefully, while I looked for coral heads.

We spend a couple of days enjoying Great Company, the sounds of the Birds, snorking and exploring Great Bird lsand, which I accidently named Big Bird Island. Karen got a kick out of that.

Tally Ho was heading North to Barbuda and we were heading south, so it was time to part company.  Since we had a great track heading into Great Bird Island, Tally Ho decided to follow us out of the reef and then head north.

As we headed back toward Falmouth we went right through the Antigua Classic Regatta. It was fun to see all the Classic Boats, and get up personal with them.

We checked out of the country, and prepared for crossing to Guadaloupe. It's 65 NM to St. Francois on Guadaloupe so it's 13 hours. It was perfect, because we were relaxing on this Sunday before an overnight passage, and we got a free boat wash from the skys.
