3 Weeks of Travel and 2 countries

We started on August 3rd and have been moving quite quickly. Our trip was to the Isle d'Yeu about a 6 hour sail from Les Sables d'Olonne. We just motored as we felt we had too much to learn without adding sailing to the adventure. The anchorage we planned to visit was too rolly and Blair didn't feel comfortable putting the anchor down with all the small fishing boats and not enough room, so we went to Joinville. It was like camping in a parking lot and they packed us in like Sardines.

The village was very cute. Sorry I don't have any photos of the village. I was still recovering from my knee surgery, so sadly we couldn't rent bikes to explore the island more. We spent 2 nights there , and then decided to go to Port Bourgenay.

Port Bourgenay was another small cute port. We didn't leave the port as we were trying to figure out how to use the chart plotter, AIS and put in way points.

Port Medoc: We spent 2 nights here preparing for our 1st over night passage of 2 nights at sea. This was a tiny port, but we were able to get laundry done, and we had ripped the zipper handle off the sailbag. As luck would have it, there was a canvas shop, and she had the exact size zipper we needed. This only cost 5 euros, and could have been a big issue, but the sailing gods were with us.

From Port Medoc we sailed to Gijon across the bay of biscay. We did get the sails up, but had to motor for most of the way. The bay of biscay is known for tough sailing, but we couldn't have asked for a better trip. We actually started to sail. Gij

Every trip we learn and this trip, I learned to look on google earth as well as get reviews on the port. The Gijon portI picked was in the industrial section of the town, so didn't offer any resturants or places to go. Apparently there is a very cute port near the center of town. We left the next day for another overnight passage to A Coruna. That sail we perfect as side from the fact we had to motor most of the way. When Blair went to take the sail down before dark, he found a pin that was missing from the boom vang. This is an important part, and if he hadn't seen it, the boom could have come crashing down in the middle of the night. Luckily, he was able to fix it, and we kept on sailing.  We've arrived in A Coruna which is a lovely city. Great historical district and lots of places to eat. You can rent bikes from the city so I've been tooling around on their city bikes exploring.
